What does Alkaline Mean and Why is it Important?

Very simply stated, alkaline in a liquid is a substance which is above neutral (7.0 pH). Alkaline is the opposite of acid. On a range of 0 to 14, everything above the middle is alkaline. Our bodies are made up mostly of water (for optimal health it should be over 70% water) and that water in our bodies should [to be healthy] remain consistently in a very narrow, slightly alkaline, range of about 7.36 pH.

Why is pH Important to Our Bodies?

Our bodies, when healthy, are alkaline, and the blood must maintain a balance of about 7.365 pH at all times. The alternative is death. Because of this, acids often get trapped in fat, joints and cells or they solidify into uric acid crystals to protect us.

The fact of acidic wastes getting stuck in our cells,impedes all cell functions; Our cells must be constantly bathed in slightly alkaline pH water in order to be hydrated and cleansed [draw the acids out of the cells]. When our cells' wastes can't get eliminated properly, this leads to most of America's common illnesses [colds, allergies, diabetes, obesity, acne, indigestion, headaches, and cancer]. These diseases all have direct links to either lack of proper hydration and/or too acidic of a diet.

A water ionizer creates natural, clean, fresh alkaline water which can then provide us with the pH buffers and the hydration that we need. [A buffer is something which helps to neutralize something.]PH buffers can neutralize the elements that are attacking and damaging your cells, and therefore they can extend the life of your cells.

Research has proven that cells can live far longer and healthier than we think. They need the right fluids and they need these to be replenished daily. Unhealthy water is acidic and/or full of chemicals, thus will not properly hydrate our cells. Soda is even worse; [canned soda is about a pH of 2.7 and fountaiin soda is about a 4 pH]. I even tested Gatorade recently and found it to be at a pH of 2.5 [very acidic]! People who drink soda, smoke, eat chips or other fatty foods, eat "junk food" or have stressful jobs all have one thing in common -- acidic bodies. They need alkaline ionized water to provide buffers, antioxidants and balance to their body. I talked to a customer once who used pH test paper to test her saliva pH. She tested very acidic, but her diet was wonderful [lots of salads]. The only thing wrong was she had been drinking reverse osmosis water for over ten years. When she switched to ionized water, though, in just a few days her saliva pH was close to neutral and needless to say, she felt a lot more energized!

Ionized water provides our bodies with the healthy water it needs for longer cell life. Ionized water is alkaline and provides buffers to balance off the excess of acids our bodies must eliminate. It is recomended that you drink plenty of ionized water (preferably at least 8 glasses) per day from a water ionizer for your cells to live the longest and healthiest life possible.

ORP stands for "oxidation reduction potential", which is another way of saying anti-oxidant.

You are probably familiar with the term anti-oxidant because vitamin C and E are anti-oxidants.

Oxidation is what's happening to the apple in this picture, or to iron when it rusts. It happens inside our bodies all the time and contributes to diseases.

Oxidation is a chemical reaction. Oxygen [O2] circulates the body, stealing electrons & damaging the cells. A free radical is an unbalanced oxygen molecule with an unpaired electron. It needs another electron to be stable and steals it from your cells. A Negative ORP is good. With a Negative ORP you get lots of extra negatively charged electrons to combine with the free radicals formed by oxidation. This makes them stable again and non-threatening to your cell health. Positive ORP is bad -- it increases oxidation [adds more free radicals to the mix]. Alkaline ionized water is powerful in that it gives you lots of negative ORP to combat cell damage and disease all day long. OH- [one oxygen + one hydrogen with an extra electron available] is the simplest and most basic antioxidant there is. You find this in freshly poured alkaline ionized water. As an antioxidant, OH- can enter your blood within just minutes of drinking ionized water. What happens then is remarkable. The free radicals in your body are neutralized with OH- antioxidants instantly, giving your cells the chance to either prevent oxidation from occuring or repair themselves after the fact. Oxidation causes cell-aging & deterioration, wrinkles, weakens muscles, and causes cancer cells [mutated cells] to form. Researchers, such as Dr. Robert Young, Dr. Peggy Parker and many others, are finding that alkaline ionized water with all of its natural antioxidants slows down and even reverses the aging process by reversing the oxidative process. There are no better, more easily absorbable antioxidants that a person could consume than those found in the OH- ions in alkaline ionized water.

High body acidity is caused primarily by the foods we eat and drink. Ideally our diet should be 80% alkaline, but in reality it’s usually just the opposite -- about 80% acidic! You Get Superior Filtration [the best water filters] With Alkaline Water Ionizers

Not only do water ionizers typically have exemplary filters that get most contaminants out of your water, but they provide another hidden filtration benefit that most people [even water ionizer owners] don't think about.

There are many things in the water today that weren't even an issue years ago. For instance, most municipalities are switching over to Chloramine, which is Chlorine plus amonia, [rather than using just plain Chlorine] to control bacteria and fungus. However Chloramine is more stable than Chlorine and is much harder to filter out. To get Chloramine out you need to run your water through the activated carbon filter slowly. You Get Microclustered Water With Alkaline Water Ionizers

Water is usually found in large clusters of 14 or so water molecules per cluster. Alkaline water ionizers break the water down from larger clusters of water molecules to smaller ones. By doing this, the smaller clusters are more easily able to pass through cell membranes and enter the cells. Therefore alkaline ionized water will penetrate the cell walls faster than any other kind of water.

The science behind it: Water penetrates cells through small channels called aquaporins.  In 2003, Peter Agre of John Hopkins University was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his work detailing the aquaporin or, as he called it, "The plumbing system for cells." Aquaporins allow the water we drink to pass through the cell membrane one molecule at a time. When we drink micro-clustered water, the smaller, weaker clusters are able to release single molecules easier, allowing them to pass through the aquaporin more quickly, hydrating the cell faster.
