Water Ionizer Taste Test

Published by Alkaline Water Plus

Today we are doing a taste test between the Enagic SD501 water ionizer, the Athena water ionizer, the Tyent 7070 Turbo water ionizer and St Louis tap water.

We are testing with three different people.  They will be blind folded so as to eliminate any bias each one might have toward a particular water source.

We are going to show you each video as we go along for the sake of full disclosure and so that you can make your own conclusions from observing yourself.  Keep in mind there are modifications to and conclusions made from this experiment as we go along.

In each video we are rating the taste of the water on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the worst tasting and 10 being the best tasting.

3rd Taste Rating

Avg

Tyent 7 9.2 8.1
Tap 9 8 9.5 8.8
Enagic 6 7 6.5
Athena 8 9.5 8.75

The Enagic did not test very well in the taste test. However I realized that I had not checked the pH of any of the water samples.  So after this video we tested the pH of all of the ionized water.

Modifications Needed

After this initial testing I checked the pH of all the water we were tasting.  Here’s a table of what the pH was after the video for each water source.  After seeing the higher pH for the Enagic, I concluded that this might have effected the results of the Enagic water ionizer’s taste test.

Water Source

pH

St Louis Tap 9.7
Athena 10.9
Tyent 10.7
Enagic 11.3

In the following videos I attempt to control the pH variable. After redoing the taste testing with all water ionizers at the same pH level (see chart below) the Enagic still did not do as well as the other water ionizers.

For the sake of condensing the information contained in these videos, I am only putting the average score from each taste tester for each water source.

Taste Test Cathie’s Ratings

Average Ratings

Tap 9.9 9.75 8.2 6.75 8.23
Enagic 10.9 7.5 7.75 7 7.42
Athena 10.9 9.2 8.2 8.75 8.72
Tyent 10.9 8.5 8.2 7.5 8.07

Final Conclusion

The results are actually quite amusing.  They are not very decisive and even within  one taste test on one person, it seems to not have any real pattern.  But, I guess that’s what you get when you are doing an experiment based on someone’s opinion.

It looks like the Athena wins out with St Louis tap water as a close second.

You can watch the videos yourself and conclude as you wish.

Note: We are lucky in St Louis to have such good tasting tap water.  That may have influenced the results of these tests.
