How often should I replace the filter?
Filter life averages 12 months (about 1,000 gallons), depending on water quality. The Smart 9P display alerts you when replacement is needed.
Does it remove fluoride or chlorine?
The Smart 9P’s UltraWater filtration system reduces chlorine, chloramines, and many other contaminants. For fluoride reduction, add the UltraWater Fluoride Filter.
Is professional installation required?
No. The Smart 9P comes with everything needed for DIY installation. Under-sink setups are optional and easy to complete with our faucet kit.

DARC Continuous-Cleaning Explained
The Smart water ionizer has nine plates inside a patented DARC (double-automatic-reverse-cleaning) water cell. The DARC water cell is one of the reasons the Smart water ionizer is able to produce the best levels of molecular hydrogen that I've ever found in a water ionizer of any size or price.
Most water ionizers boast of great automatic cleaning systems, but none even compare to the DARC (Double-Automatic-Continuous-Cleaning) in the water ionizers with Emco Tech (Smart) water cells. Emco Tech is the leader of scientific development of water ionizers since 1982, and continues to this day to make water cells that out-perform and out-last all of the competition.
DARC water cells and electrode plates will outlast all the others by about 2 to 1. Keeping the electrode plates of a water ionizer pristine-clean is so important that it might even be the most important feature of a water ionizer. With DARC continuous-cleaning, the magnetic field in the electrolytic bath is reversed every 15 seconds for a complete acid wash of one side of the water cell while it's creating alkaline in the other. With the DARC system no minerals will ever be able to energetically adhere to the Titanium plates; instead, they are repelled and flushed away. Continuous-cleaning causes Platinum coated Titanium Electrodes to have the most excellent conductivity of all water ionizer plates and optimum durability.

Installation and Programming
Installation is easy, and the manual covers it pretty well, but here are a couple of tips & warnings about it.
- Operating any water ionizer with a dried-out water-cell can cause the water cell to burst when you start it up again. For this reason we suggest you set up your water ionizer within a few weeks of it arriving to you...
- The best use of a Smart water ionizer machine is to use it every day...
- Make sure you know how to remove a quick-connect plug.
How to Change and Reset the Filter
- The filter is easy to pop in and out...
- The filter counter needs to be reset after replacing the filter...
- Then push/hold the Alkaline Button until you see the filter is re-set.
- Finally do a fast push on the Filter or Voice button to exit & save.
Programming the Smart Water Ionizer
- Volume (up, down or off)
- Power: internal base-programming has 5 settings (default is “2”).
- Date/time can be turned on/off or set as needed.
- Caution: Don’t alter other settings besides Alkaline/Acidic levels.

Packing Up the Smart Water Ionizer
- Turn off the water source.
- Open the flow knob (releases pressure on lines).
- Blow through spout to force water out of machine.
- Remove spout and hoses; let dry.
- Put plugs in/on the open ports (from the spout and two hoses) and secure the electric cord with a twist-tie.
- Make sure machine is dry before covering it with the large plastic bag that came with it.
- Turn the machine on its side.
- Fit the bottom into the foam fitting and plug into the corner hole.
- Slide machine into product box.
- Turn box upright.
- Put hoses and other pieces into a separate plastic bag and insert them into the box.
- Make sure to put the top foam piece on correctly. There is only one way that fits.
- There's a spot on top of the foam piece for the spout to fit nicely.
- Close up the box.
- If you're going to ship the box, make sure to pack it securely and snugly into another, bigger, sturdy shipping box.
