How an Electric Water Ionizer Works

Exactly What is an Electric Water Ionizer?
The ionizer machine filters the water and splits it into alkaline and acidic streams. It has two output hoses for this.
Alkaline water comes from the pH water machine's top flexi-hose [spout] and contains natural hydrogen antioxidants (proven powerful in fighting free-radicals).
Acidic water is the natural byproduct of ionization and comes from another hose at the bottom of the machine. This acidic water is good for cleaning purposes, plants, and as beauty water.

- I can't stress enough how important the strength of the water cell is. You don't want a leak, ever.
- H2 WATER IONIZERS ARE STRONG ON THE INSIDE: With H2 ionized water machine you don't have to worry about being told you can't install it under your sink if you ever want to. These are very strong water ionizers and can hold up to the internal pressure of undersink installation, or any other kind of pressurized installation, very well. An ionizing water machine is a life-long investment in your health. As such, all the ionizer water machines we sell have lifetime warranties. Best Practice (Timing) for Drinking Alkaline Ionized Water (or any water for that matter)
- Before meals: Drink small amounts of water in sips, ideally at a neutral pH (~15–30 minutes before). I like to add a few drops of apple cider vinegar to my ionized water both before and during meals, and also just take sips here and there. This can help prepare the digestive system.
- During meals: Limit the amount of water you drink while eating. Moderate water intake (not excessive) aids swallowing, activates digestive enzymes, helps moisten food, and may make it easier to chew and swallow, while also supporting nutrient absorption. During meals, alkaline ionized water (especially when combined with a squeeze of lemon) can be the perfect solution for breaking down, transporting, and absorbing soluble nutrients, particularly water-soluble vitamins (B and C) and minerals.
- After meals: Continue as above, with just sips here and there, until 30 minutes after the meal, or possibly longer for a larger meal, to ensure digestion is well underway. Then drink freely.
- Between meals is an ideal time for alkaline or hydrogen-rich water to:
- Help neutralize residual metabolic acids.
- Promote hydration.
- Support systemic hydration and promote healthy bowel movements.
- Water keeps intestinal contents soft and moving, helping prevent constipation.
- Support detoxification and antioxidant balance (especially if rich in molecular hydrogen).
By itself, water does not trigger digestion. Water has no calories and, therefore, passes directly through the stomach without triggering digestion if you drink it without food. Water is the ideal medium for delivering hydrogen, antioxidants, and pH buffers to your body and cells. It gets into your body and cells extremely quickly, so there is very little loss of the hydrogen benefits when it reaches the cells.
Avoid Possible Negative Effects
Avoid drinking large amounts of water during meals, as it may temporarily dilute stomach acid, potentially slowing protein digestion.
If You Experience a Slow-Flow of Ionized Water Do This
The most usual reason for a slow flow of ionized water through your alkaline water machines is scale build up in the machine. Scale can also cause all kinds of other difficulties, like inexplicible power shut. What happens when the water flow is too slow it triggers the ionizer to go into sleep-mode to protect it from overheating.
A sudden slow-flow issue is usually due to scale build-up in your ionizer, although I suppose your source water could have developed a slow in it too. Especially if your source water is very hard prevent scale with anti-scale measures. Also, see the basic citric acid wash instructions below.
Do a Citric Acid Wash to Fix the Scale Issues
These instructions are for the all water ionizers, but make sure to get the right filters from your H2 water machine's brand page, i.e., AlkaViva, Jupiter or Nexus filters.
- Insert citric acid filter(s) in the filter port(s). If there's more than one port you can choose to insert a blank filter in one. [It is urgent to NOT to leave the regular filters in the machine as it will spoil the filter. (When you're done with the procedure put the regular filter(s) back in.)]
- Run the alkaline level 3 cycle (with the citric acid filter(s) inserted) for 20 seconds. Then turn off and wait a half-hour. Repeat this step until there is no citric acid left in the filters (about 5 times). In really bad scenarios (where the water flow has slowed down drastically) I suggest letting the ionizer sit overnight after the first 20-second cycle. Test the pH of the output water to determine if there is any citric acid left. If it tests acidic, then there's still citric acid in there.
After the citric acid wash you should notice a faster flow-rate. If so resume using the water machine normally after returning the filters to the regular filter set up.
If it's still flowing too slow the above procedure may need to be repeated. If there's absolutely no improvement then contact me for a consultation with the water machine repair department.

Don't Buy Water in Stores
There is no practical way to get the health benefits of higher pH, alkaline, ionized, antioxidant-rich water from the store. We each need to drink alkaline fresh from a water alkaline machine.
Consume ionized water quickly, or the antioxidants will evaporate. They have a half-life of only a few hours exposed to the air or in a plastic bottle.
If you are looking for the healthiest water, these are the best alkaline water machines for the home you can buy. With any other method of creating alkaline water, you will not have antioxidants in that water.
My St. Louis tap water has a 9.0 alkaline pH, but before I filtered and ionized it, it didn't act as healing water.

How Water Source Affects a Water Ionizer
Water Ionizers Don't Always Work the Same in Every Location.
It's easier to ionize water that is medium-hardness than very soft or very hard water. The pH level of your source water can also influence how well it ionizes. For instance, if you start with a 6 pH it may ionize with strongest at a 10.5. Whereas if your source water started at 9 pH, it doesn't require a lot of strength to ionize it.
